The Philosophy of ” What is Art and Why I care? “
Art can be what you want it to be, but is it what it ought to be? This is a question I often find myself (and others) avoiding when we want to do as we please and what we should be. In opposition to this, like a squealing old hag, the objection rings , “Art is the eye of the beholder”. Is it though? Are we chasing after the fancies of our viewers alone? Are we merely seeking fame? Is there nothing more for art to accomplish then the approval or disapproval of its visitors? I feel that many artists are fundamentally unconcerned with expressing anything sincere from their heart. Rather, they seek to derive value and recognition for their art through cultivating technical prowess. This creates art that is fundamentally weak and without spiritual value, however much relative cultural value may be attributed to it.
I believe that the true aim of all sincere artists is the realization of heaven on earth. The glimpses of inspiration and power that we attune to as artists are ultimately steps toward heaven. Each authentic artist in our own right contributes to the grounding of heaven’s perfection in the evolutionary context of our world.
